Pam, it was a great idea to add podcast and human element feel to an already interesting article!

Thanks. You were a fantastic interviewer. Not bad for our first podcast.

Love hearing the Bike Ride Across NC (BRANC) story.

Me too. Maybe I should look into it?

Another comment. I cannot remember the year, but I joined for part of the NC Mountains to the Sea ride in Albemarle, NC. One of my cycling friends could only ride half the route, so his wife drove me to the his drop out spot. The weather had been gorgeous for his part, but the rain came down our tent that night. Hard rain. The next morning, we cycled in pouring rain to Laurinburg, NC to camp at the college, only to find six inches of standing water in the designated camping area. Fortunately, my riding partner & I found space on the floor in a racquetball court with other snoring and coughing cyclists. The next day he & I made a wrong turn and turned an 80 mile day into a century plus. The problem was a tropical storm stalled off the NC coast,, drenching eastern NC. Mary Ann had to make a long detour enroute to our rendezvous in Wilmington. I was one wet and tired cyclist at the end of that week.

Doug, you should write that up for your grandkids. Sounds terrible. Which makes it a good story. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for being a reader!

I loved the podcast, but have small bone (very small, fishbone size) to pick with you. Your arithmetic is seriously flawed if you think you have been in Georgia ~20 years. Mary Ann & I met in 1985 and you were already in Georgia. So, it has to be closer to 40 years than 20. What year did you and Mary Ann meet up in Europe?

Yes, my bad. Somehow I always use 20 years as a timing device. Whew. I thought you were going to pick a bone about the "old guy" stuff. But I guess not, because you are not one yet.

I used to tell my sons to act their age, but it's a lesson I apparently haven't learned too well. I have a big decade birthday approaching that clearly defines me as an old guy. Still cycling, but no longer at 20 mph.
